How does the permanent 9-digit hardware ID work?
In PCRemotely v2.0, your 9-digit ID is deterministically derived from your machine's hardware identifiers (Registry MachineGuid, machine-id, or IOPlatformUUID) and persisted in ~/.pcremotely/identity.json. This ID remains constant across reboots.
How is security guaranteed if the ID is fixed?
Every time PCRemotely launches, a new temporary one-time password is generated. Furthermore, every incoming connection requires an explicit 30-second modal consent prompt from the host user. For unattended access, you can set a permanent password hashed with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (100,000 iterations).
Do I need to open any firewall ports?
None. PCRemotely uses native WebRTC NAT traversal (ICE/STUN) with automatic fallback to high-security TURN relays when both endpoints are behind symmetric NAT or restrictive corporate firewalls.
Why is the 4:4:4 video pipeline superior?
Most legacy remote desktop tools compress chroma to 4:2:0, creating blurry colored text and artifacts. PCRemotely streams full 4:4:4 color space with adaptive resolution and frame-settling, delivering ultra-crisp fidelity for developers, designers, and system administrators.
